BOSTON — In the second meet of the season, the NRHS girls’ indoor track team took home another victory, showing a lot of promise for the rest of the season. The Hornets won convincingly over Essex Tech on Jan. 10 at the Track at New Balance, scoring 68 points to the Hawks’ 32, and sweeping three events.

In the 55 meter hurdles, Hayden MacLellan (8.79), Callie MacLellan (10.25) and Katie Zimmerman (10.28) took first, second and third, respectively, sweeping the event. Lindsay Rosenthal was not far behind with a time of 11.22 seconds.  

In the 55 meter dash, Georgia Robarts (7.81) got second place, Julia Scammon (8.02) got third and Julia DeAngelis (8.08) and Marisa Montana ( 8.21) got fifth and sixth demonstrating North Reading’s strength in this event.  

In the 300 meter dash, all the North Reading competitors ran a strong race. Marisa Montana (48.43), Isabelle Lazure (49.64), Sydney Palmer (54.89), Julia Mulik (55.12), Madison Forbush (55.15) and Brooklyn Houle (57.09) all ran impressively in this event.  

In the 600 meter dash, Giuliana Ligor ( 1:47.45) placed first. Abigail Meier (1:58.52) secured third, scoring her first varsity point. Madeline Forristall (2:08.16) and Sophie Boudoya (2:30.53) also ran well.

In the 1000 meters, Callie MacLellan ( 3:28.94) got first place and Eva Hanegraaff (3:51.63) got third. Paige Helferich (3:57.38) and Ellie Moberg (4:31.30) also ran well in this event.  

In the mile, Quinlan Kelly ( 5:57.82) won the event with Ava Collins (6:15.07) not too far behind, securing second place.  

In the 2 mile, two freshmen Adelyn Kelly (13:48.16) in first place and Riley MacDonald (14:09.56) in second place, showed how the future of the North Reading distance squad is looking bright.

In the high jump, Callie MacLellan (5-02.00) and Giuliana Ligor (5-02.00) tied for first place. Abigail Lilley (5-00.00) got third place. Giuliana Auciello (4-10.00) also jumped very impressively in this event.  

In long jump, North Reading swept with Georgia Robarts (16-06.00) in first, Hayden MacLellan (15-03.25) in second, and Katie Zimmerman (14-02.00) in third.  

In Shot Put, North Reading took second in third with throws by Abigail Lilley (29-07.00) and Sabrina Mini (28-03.00). Jacquelyn Genzler (25-00.50) and Julia Scammon (20-05.50) also had impressive throws this meet.

To conclude a successful meet came the relays. North Reading got second in the 1600 meter relay but won the 800 meter relay. In the 1600 meter relay, Eva Hanegraaff (leg 1), Adelyn Kelly (leg 2), Abigail Meier (leg 3) and Quinlan Kelly (anchor) ran this event for the first time as a team in 4:58.48. In the 800 meter relay, Georgia Robarts (leg 1), Julia DeAngelis (leg 2), Katie Zimmerman (leg 3), and Giuliana Ligor (anchor) won with their time of 1:50.91.

It is still fairly new in the season, meaning there is a lot of time for the girls to continue to improve their times and hopefully continue to win.
