LYNNFIELD — December 16 marks the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party and the museum plans to re-create the event by dumping tea into the harbor that evening.
The museum has been gathering tea donations from around the country and world to be used at the event. The Lynnfield Historical Society, through its Revolution 250 Committee, delivered tea collected from its members to be added to the cargo that will be thrown over the sides of the Beaver and Dartmouth, moored in Boston’s Fort Point Channel.
Society Secretary Shelley Lynch, together with members Ace Foulds and Alan Foulds, visited Griffin’s Wharf and met with Tea Party Ships & Museum Executive Director Shawn Ford. Ford thanked the Society for its donation.
“I’d like to thank the Lynnfield Historical Society for personally coming down here to give us loose tea to throw into the harbor on December 16,” said Ford.
The Historical Society also commemorates another “tea party” closer to home. The latest episode of “Lynn End in the Revolution” premiered on Dec. 9. Filmed on location, it tells the story of an event in Lynn, which included Lynnfield during the Revolution, at which the women of the town stormed a local bake house and tea shop and removed all the imported tea, so it could not be sold.
“Watch for more of these videos on the Lynnfield Historical Society YouTube channel in the coming weeks and months, culminating in April 2025, together with an observance of Lynnfield’s role in the start of the American Revolution,” said Alan Foulds.
