LYNNFIELD — The girls’ tennis team recently celebrated a successful season during the end-of-the-year banquet.
The Pioneers concluded the 2024 season with a 16-7 record, and qualified for the state tournament for the 41st consecutive season. Lynnfield advanced to the Division 4 state finals, where the third seeded Pioneers fell 5-0 to first seed and defending state champion Hamilton-Wenham 5-0 in the state finals.
“It was a season of constant improvement that culminated in a state championship appearance at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,” said Pioneers head coach Craig Stone. “The players accepted challenges outside of their comfort zone, developed new strategies and constantly worked to improve. After a Final Four appearance last season, advancing to the state finals this year was extremely gratifying. Credit must be given to the players, not only for their improvement, but for their camaraderie and team spirit.”
Stone presented several team awards during the banquet. Captain Paige Martino, who played first singles, received the Outstanding Achievement Award. She was also named as the Cape Ann League player of the year and was named a CAL All-Star.
Senior captain Maddie Sieve, who played third singles, was given the Sharla Caico Sieve Team Spirit. Sieve also received the award last year after it was established in memory of her late mom, Sharla, who tragically passed away from stage 4 metastatic colorectal cancer in December 2022.
Senior captain Leticia Marafon, who played first doubles, was the recipient of the Lynnfield Athletic Association Student-Athlete Award.
Sophomore Lily Alves, who played second singles, received the Most Improved Award and the Lynnfield High School Student-Athlete for the Month of June Award.
Junior Ella Hayman, who played first doubles, earned the Coaches Award during the banquet.
Stone also presented varsity letters to Martino, Sieve, Marafon, Hayman, Alves, sophomore Vicky McCrann and freshman Emma Wagon. McCrann and Wagon played second doubles last season. Sophomore Fiona Asaad, sophomore Victoria Clancy, sophomore Nandana Nishanth, junior Bella Nguyen and junior Parminder Saini were also given varsity letters.
The Pioneers who received sub-varsity certificates were freshman Charlotte Rose, sophomore Faye Allen, sophomore Charlotte Beccia, sophomore Mallory DiSilvio, sophomore Sonia Kumar, sophomore Gianna Micieli, sophomore Jerusha Robbins, sophomore Zoe Rockwell, junior Marina Angulo and junior Adishree Batchu.
Martino, Hayman and Alves were elected captains for the 2025 season.
