10 athletes honored at ceremony & banquet

MELROSE—The Melrose Athletic Hall of Fame inducted their 2024 Class on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 at a plaque ceremony at Melrose High School and, later, an enjoyable banquet at Melrose’s Memorial Hall. 

The newest class members include the following individuals:

      Donald MacInnes, MHS Class of 1956, hockey (posthumous)

     Ken Runge, MHS Class of 1981, baseball

     Tim Reilly, MHS Class of 1981, hockey

     Keith H. Bowden, Co-Founder of Melrose Athletic Hall of Fame

     Mike Sweezey, MHS Class of 1997, wrestling, football

     Sarah McGowan, MHS Class of 2013, volleyball, tennis

     Brooke Bell, MHS Class of 2013, volleyball, basketball

     Eric Mercer, MHS Class of 2014, football, hockey, lacrosse

     Samantha D’Alessandro, 2018, swimming

     Bionca St. Fleur, MHS Class of 2013, track and field

Athletes, friends and family enjoyed a well-attended ceremony at the Melrose Learning Commons and a sold out banquet at Memorial Hall, where each recipient received their award and gave a speech. Dinner and drinks were provided by Henrys of Malden and Bobby C’s Ristorante, and a silent auction was offered by Sportworld. The Hall would like to thank their many generous sponsors and financial supporters for another successful event.
