NORTH READING — At the North Reading High golf team’s end-of-season banquet held at the Horseshoe Cafe, first-year head coach Jon Kiniry handed out three awards.

The team MVP Award went to Jason Curran. Curran, a senior captain, led the team in scoring averaging 30 points per match (Stableford scoring) to lead the team.

The Coaches Award was given to Leo Romanski.

Romanski, a junior, was also a CAL First-Team All-Star this fall. It is his second year in a row on the team as he made the CAL Second-Team All-Stars last season. He also won the CAL Open on Oct. 18 at Far Corner shooting a one-over-par 73.

Senior co-captain Tom Gazda, earned the Unsung Hero award.

This was another great year for the Hornets as they reached  the Division 3 state final for the second consecutive season.

North Reading came in second place in the Division 3 North Sectionals behind only Weston at Stow Acres (South Course).

They placed 8th out of 12 teams in the state final at Foxboro Country Club.

In the regular season, the Hornets captured the CAL Kinney Division crown going 10-1.

The Hornets will lose seven seniors to graduation.

Along with Curran and Gazda, the team will also lose Max Forristall, Liam Blanchette, Liam Talbot,

Stephen Desisle and Nick Santiago.

“The seniors were great to work with,” stated Kiniry, who was also named the CAL Kinney Division Coach of the Year. “They bought into the new system I implemented and played great.”

Overall, Kiniry was very happy with the way his first year went.

“It couldn’t have gone much better,” he said.

North Reading is expecting 13 players back next fall with three of them being starters.

“We have a lot of promise when it comes to next season,” said Kiniry.
