NORTH READING — On September 22, Hornet boys’ soccer senior captain Josh Stanieich scored the 41st goal of his career breaking the NRHS career scoring record of 40 held by Shawn Fitzgerald (NRHS ‘92) and Mike Fitzgerald (NRHS ‘94) (no relation).

“I had tried to downplay the record and in fact I really haven’t spoken to Josh about it since the end of last year – that is until this week,” said head coach Mark Bisognano. “He knew he was close and he asked me about it, so he knew where he stood coming into the week. I think he was a bit relieved, but the whole team was very excited for him and you could tell he was excited as well.

“He’s very humble and I think he will be glad to go back to just playing soccer and not worrying about the record. That being said, it’s a tremendous achievement and I think by the end of the season it will start to sink in for him what an amazing soccer career he has had here.”
