Instrumental in organizing the town’s Food Pantry

SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Marcia Grace (Nutting) Lawson, 103, passed away at Gosnell Hospice in Scarborough, Maine on May 1, 2024.

Marcia was on on December 5, 1920 in Pleasant Grove, Minnesota, a daughter of Ella and Frank Nutting. After attending Rochester Jr. College, she was employed at the Mayo Clinic Medical Library.

After losing her mother at age 30, Marcia left Minnesota and took a job as a Medical Editor for several Pediatric Cardiologists at Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

In 1952, she met and married Theodore Lawson. After the birth of their first child they moved to North Reading.

In 1959, Marcia and Ted purchased property on Swan Pond in Lyman, Maine. Over the years they enjoyed every summer at their cottage with their growing family.

Marcia and Ted donated much of their time to the North Reading community. They helped organize the Aldersgate UMC, she helped the Christian Community Service organization to provide help to those in need, such as providing rides to medical appointments, and money for heating oil. She was instrumental in organizing the Food Pantry in North Reading. Marcia would see a need and asked only, how can I help?

She is predeceased by her husband Ted, a sister, Dorothy, and a brother, Norris. She is survived by her daughter Barbara, of Hollis, Maine, her son, Richard Lawson and his wife Barbara of Newton, New Hampshire, and her daughter, Virginia McCarthy and her husband Robert of Pembroke, Massachusetts. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Cherylynn Silvia, Andrew Lawson, Michelle Silva and Eric Lawson and his wife Samantha Lawson, as well as three great-grandchildren, Maisey, Teddy and Everly.
