LYNNFIELD — The Cape Ann League softball coaches recently met to decide their All-Star team and three members of the Lynnfield High team made the squad. Breanna Serabian, a junior outfielder, made the CAL First Team All-Stars.

“Not only is she a good hitter she has made some big plays out in the field,” said Pioneers manager Peter Marinelli.

Two Pioneers made the CAL Second Team All-Stars, Allie Wing and Reilly Ganter. Wing is a senior captain who plays catcher while Ganter is a sophomore pitcher who went 10-7 in the circle.

REILLY GANTER earned the call to the CAL second team All-Stars after her strong work as Lynnfield’s ace this season. Ganter will take the ball for the No. 13 Pioneers against No. 20 St. Joseph Prep in the preliminary round of the Div. 3 North Tournament. It is the first All-Star appearance for all three players.

The seedings for the Division 3 North State Tournament came out on Tuesday. The Pioneers earned the No. 13 seed and will open up in the Preliminary Round against No. 20 St. Joseph Prep (10-10). The winner will meet No. 4 Madison Park (11-3) in the First Round. Lynnfield will most likely play their first game either Wednesday or Thursday.

That means that the team will go either 14 or 15 days since their final game when they beat guest Masconomet 12-7 on Senior Day.

The MIAA added a week to the regular season to give extra sates for rainouts but the Pioneers were able to get their season in without any postponements.

“I am concerned about the long layoff,” admitted Marinelli. “Last week was Senior Week and we did not get to scrimmage anybody.”

The Pioneers finished the regular season at 11-7 overall and 9-7 in the Cape Ann League. They ended up in third place in the CAL Kinney division behind North Reading and Triton.

Marinelli feels that Austin Prep, St. Mary’s of Lynn and Amesbury will be the teams to beat in the North.

Last season, the Pioneers lost to Amesbury in the Div. 3 North quarterfinals to end the year at 12-9.
