WAKEFIELD — The 2017 town election set for tomorrow features 23 candidates and three contested races, a testament that the call to public service is not completely falling on deaf ears.
Six people are running for two seats on the Board of Selectmen. Five residents are seeking two seats on the School Committee. And three men are battling for one constable position.
Town Clerk Betsy Sheeran is predicting turnout tomorrow could be as high as 18 percent of the town’s 18,668 registered voters.
“The candidates will get their people out, there’s no question about that,” Sheeran said. “The weather may play a factor however.” Tomorrow’s forecast calls for rain and temperatures hovering around 50.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Those living in Precincts 1 and 7 vote at the Masonic Building on Salem Street; those in Precincts 2 and 3 vote at the Crystal Community Club on Preston Street; those in Greenwood’s Precinct 4 vote at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church on Main Street, and those in Precincts 5 and 6 vote at the West Side Social Club on Harrington Court.
