NORTH READING — The NRHS boys’ spring track team outlasted the rain, cold and two opponents last Wednesday, May 4, as they improved their record to 6–0 with victories over Hamilton–Wenham 87.5 – 57.5 and Ipswich, 104 – 41.

Overall event winners included Justin Bruzzese in the 400 Meter Hurdles (60.47), Kilian Daly in the Triple Jump (38’ 9”), Antonio Catino in the 110 Meter Hurdles (17.18), Jackson Hastings in the 100 Meters (12.02), Nick Copelas in the 200 Meters (24.04) and 4×100 Relay team of Angelo DiSanto, Matt McCarthy, Nick Copelas and Jackson Hastings (46.15).

The highlight of the meet was Jenson Kaithamattam improving by a foot in the pole vault despite the rain and cold as he cleared 10’ 6.”

The wins set up a chance for the Hornets second Cape Ann League Regular Season Title as they take on Pentucket and Newburyport on Wednesday, May 11. Go Hornets!

Carter the class of Mass., wins 2000M Steeplechase at Weston Invite

Senior Captain Brendan Carter won the 2000 Meter Steeplechase at the Weston Invitational on Saturday evening with a time of 6:25.6, which is good enough to be ranked 2nd in the state and 36th in the nation for the event. He bested his previous best of 6:50.1 which he set last year in Weston.

Senior David Smith threw the Javelin 162’ 3” which is now 3rd All-Time in NRHS history, allowed him to finish 3rd in the Weston Invite and also qualified him for the Emerging Elite category at Nationals which will be held in North Carolina in June.

Senior captains Jackson Hastings and Nick Copelas finished 14th in the 100 meters (11.76) and 23rd in the 200 meters (23.75) respectively in an extremely competitive meet. Junior Vitaliy Andrusyshyn improved his season best to 41’ 9” in the Shot Put.
