NORTH READING — For 60 years, North Reading Dollars for Scholars has provided valuable scholarships to current high school graduates as well as post-graduates, enabling them to pursue their education beyond high school.
Since its inception in 1963, Dollars for Scholars has provided financial assistance to 2,366 residents of North Reading with awards totaling $1,067,805. For its Silver Anniversary year in 1989, the nonprofit organization’s goal of establishing an Endowment Fund of $100,000 was attained. The $200,000 goal was reached in 1997 follows by the $300,000 milestone in 2002. As of May 2023, the Endowment Fund now totals $685,536. The interest and dividends earned on this principal are distributed to graduating students, citizens of North Reading and those currently enrolled in post-secondary education. Dollars for Scholars also relies on the generosity of residents during its annual Phone-a-thon held each spring.
The current officers, President Kathy Acciavatti, Vice President Alison M. Connolly and Secretary Brenda Beherrell as well as Board Members Terri Cheney, MaryPat DeSwarte, Amy DiChiara, Maureen Fagen, NRHS Principal Anthony Loprete, Fiona Maxwell, Donna Murphy and Mary Walsh, along with Student Representatives Sabrina and Lucia Mini were pleased to award scholarships to 25 members of the Class of 2023 of NRHS and 16 post-graduates in June.
The Class of 2023 recipients are: Annalise Butler, Christian DaCosta, Jenna DiNapoli, Margaret Fortin, Emma Galbraith, Jake Garniss, Kylie Gettings, Molly Giunta, Shane Hanson, Anne Kuperstein, Tiara Lamont, Isaac Liang, Anabelle Mahoney, Paris McAuliffe, Kai McMeniman, Brady Miller, Isabella Milone, Savino Morelli, Angelina Palazzolo, Jonathan Park, Caroline Salvatierra, Caleb Sands, Brianne Slattery, Ethan Soroko and Mia Vittozzi.
Post-graduate recipients are: Christianna Orcel, Monika Stantcheva, Veronica Stantcheva, Molly Feffer, Emily Kuperstein, Christopher Nearing, Emma Boland, Joel Keaton, Erin Davis, Megan Slattery, Emily Sonia, Fiona Ligor, Riley Cullen, Abigail Bowers, Emma Mini and Rose Morelli.
