WAKEFIELD – The 2017 Town Election continues to take shape as eight candidates have already returned their nomination papers and had the requisite number of signatures certified, according to Town Clerk Betsy Sheeran.
To qualify for the ballot, a candidate must return nomination papers with at least 50 registered voters’ signatures.
To date, 21 candidates for various offices have pulled nomination papers. As of yesterday, eight of those candidates have already gathered their signatures, returned them to the Town Clerk’s Office and had their validity certified.
Selectman Phyllis Hull, running for re-election, returned her nomination papers on Jan. 18.
Sheeran is running for re-election as Town Clerk. She returned her completed nomination papers on Jan. 18.
Veteran Planning Board member William Damore is seeking re-election to another five-year term and also turned in his signed nomination papers on Jan. 18.
Incumbent Constable John Ruehrwein had his nomination papers certified on Jan 23 as he seeks re-election to another three-year term.
Seeking another three-year term on the Board of Assessors, Sebastian Tine returned his papers on Feb. 3.
Newcomer Anne-Marie Fortier is seeking a three-year term on the School Committee. She turned in her nomination papers on Feb. 7.
Former Advisory Board of Public Works member and current Permanent Building Committee member James A. Lapery is seeking a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen. He turned in his nomination papers on Feb. 16.
Incumbent School Committee member Christopher Callanan seeks re-election to a three-year term and returned his nomination papers on Feb. 21.
The town election is April 25.
The last day to obtain nomination papers is Friday, March 3 , 2017 at 5 p.m.
The last day to submit nomination papers to Registrars of Voters for certification is Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 5 p.m.
The last day to file nomination papers with the Town Clerk is Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 5 p.m.
The last day to object to or to withdraw nomination papers is Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 5 p.m.
