A devoted mother who was a lifelong lover of art

WAKEFIELD — Jean M. (Comeau) Tropeano, age 82, a longtime Wakefield resident, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 23 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Boston on January 5, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Joseph D. and Doris I. (Widtfeldt) Comeau.

She was raised in Dorchester and attended the Jeremiah E. Burke High School. In 1953, Jean received an award from the Institute of Contemporary Arts-Massachusetts Scholastic Art Competition and was a lifelong lover of art. She was a parishioner of Saint Florence Church and for many years worked in the business of her late husband: the B.J. Tropeano & Sons company of Wakefield.

Her family was paramount in all she did. A loving wife of over fifty years to the late Benjamin J. Tropeano Sr. Devoted mother of Benjamin J. Tropeano Jr. and his wife, Gayle, of Lynn; Anthony P. Tropeano and his wife, Erin, of Lynnfield and Daniel R. Tropeano and his wife, Kellie, of Wakefield. Sister of Nancy Herb, the late Alice Crawford and Clara J. Roberto, her much adored confidant and closest friend. She was very proud of her ten grandchildren: Anthony Jr., Nicholas, Joseph, Giulia, Stephanie, Thomas, Tessa, Francesca, Elly and the late Sonny; also, her four great grandchildren, Shay, Samuel, Anthony III and Casey.
