WAKEFIELD — Detectives who had been conducting surveillance on an alleged massage parlor operating on North Avenue across from the train station yesterday arrested a 51-year-old Flushing, N.Y. woman for offering sex for a fee.
According to police, Sum In Xue of 13208 Sanford Ave., Flushing, N.Y., was arrested around 11:45 a.m. after she alleged offered a paid “sexual service” to an undercover police officer. Xue works at Bloom Body Works in the commercial block that includes the North Ave. Diner. Another woman was also at the business but was not charged.
Police immediately entered the business after they were notified of Xue’s solicitation. They also seized about $7,000 in cash.
Local law enforcers were informed some time ago that Bloom Body Works may be something other than a day spa, so the Detective Division led by Det. Sgt. Richard DiNanno began watching the place. Other detectives involved in the surveillance were Ken Silva, Chris Grace and Jack Ryan.
The business apparently was categorized in such a way that it only needed a state license; apparently, no local permitting was necessary.
The issue of massage parlors in Wakefield was discussed at last night’s selectmen’s meeting and will be further discussed tonight before the Board of Health.

Young women continue to run away from a Lafayette Street home managed through the state’s Department of Children and Families.
Three left the house yesterday around 11 a.m.
Police were told to be on the lookout for a 16-year-old with blond hair and brown eyes weighing about 130 pounds and standing about five foot two who possibly was on her way to Lowell; a 14-year-old black haired African American girl standing about five foot one and weighing about 150 pounds who may be headed for Roxbury; and a white five foot seven 16-year-old with brown hair weighing about 220 pounds who may be going to Dorchester.
Around 3:35 p.m. yesterday an employee of the Lafayette Street home reported that yet another client never returned from Woburn High School. Woburn Police were notified.

A Sumner Avenue resident told police at 7:51 a.m. yesterday that a woman had just walked out of his shed. The man said he did not know the woman, who was described as wearing all black and a pink hat.
The woman was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Police were told at 9:37 yesterday morning that a man was having a seizure on Salem Street. He was taken to the hospital.

A 94-year-old Bay Street resident was apparently having trouble breathing at 11:17 a.m. yesterday. Police notified Action Ambulance.

Two neighbors quarreling over a pet allegedly caused a disturbance on Richardson Avenue yesterday around 3:35 p.m.

Police reported that while officers were on patrol between 4 and 6 p.m. in the Square, they had to remove youths skateboarding in front of the library and in front of the First Baptist Church.

A strong odor of fuel oil was reported along an area of Greenwood Avenue last night around 9:30. Firefighters could not find the source of the problem.
Firefighters also went to Atwood Avenue this morning around 7:30 to investigate an odor of natural gas. The Municipal Gas and Light Department was notified for a followup investigation.
Yesterday, firefighters also went to 580 Salem St. at 5:30 p.m. after a carbon monoxide detector malfunctioned. They went to 7 Audubon Rd. around 9 p.m. after a fire alarm system did the same thing.
