GEORGETOWN — On Columbus Day evening, the North Reading High girls’ soccer team won at Georgetown by a final score of 4-1. The victory was the fifth-straight for the Hornets who improved to 9-1-1 overall and 7-1-1 in the Cape Ann League.

The Royals, meanwhile, fell to 5-5-2 overall and 4-5-2 in the CAL

Sophia Barker scored 8:20 in assisted by Bella Cannalonga and Jenna DiNapoli. The Royals then tied it just 1:55 later as the game was knotted at one heading into the half.

In the second half, the Hornets erupted for three goals to pull away.

Kiersten Higgins scored just 1:31 into the second half assisted by Tiara Lamont and Jenna DiNapoli. Higgins then had another tally 22:42 into the second half with Lamont assisting.

Maggie Fortin had the final goal assisted by Sami Patch at the 76:50 mark.

Hornets goalie, Maggie Schultz, made 10 saves to go to 9-1-1.

At home on Oct. 6, the Hornets blanked guest Manchester-Essex 2-0.

Both North Reading goals came in the second half. Allie Lanciani scored, unassisted, at the 7:40 mark. Lamont added the insurance goal at the 14-minute mark assisted by Higgins.

Schultz made nine stops in this game.

On Oct. 14, the Hornets visit Swampscott for a non-league game. That contest will start at 4:30 p.m.

The Hornets return to CAL action on Oct. 17 as they visit Lynnfield under the lights starting at 6 p.m. This is the second meeting between the two schools as the first match-up ended in a 1-1 tie back on Sept. 8.

The Hornets are in second place in the CAL Kinney Division behind Newburyport. Entering this week, the team is ranked 13th in the MIAA Division 3 power rankings. The top 32 teams at the end of the year automatically qualify for the states.
