Boys’ lacrosse gets ready for states after strong regular season

Lynnfield defeats Hamilton-Wenham 17-2 Monday (6/5) and advances to the Sweet 16 to face Manchester Essex.

LYNNFIELD — With a long layoff period between the end of the regular season and the playoffs, Lynnfield High boys lacrosse coach Pat Lamusta was able to get a scrimmage game played on May 26th as they took on Peabody at home.

They played only three quarters and didn’t keep score but it was very helpful to play the Division 1 Tanners according to Lamusta.

“It was great,” said Lamusta. “They were looking for a scrimmage as well and we were able to set up the game and put it together quickly.”

Lamusta was also happy to get senior co-captains Drew Damiani and Jack Calichman some work as both were coming back from injures.

Damiani missed the last two games of the regular season while Calichman missed several games before returning for the season finale against Winthrop.

Lynnfield, who went 10-8 overall, finished seeded 6^th in the MIAA Division 4 power rankings which means they will get to open the states at home.

The tournament seedings will come out on May 31 and will start play later this week or at the start of next week.

Lamusta feels that Sandwich, Weston and Wahconah Regional are the teams to beat in Division 4.

Will Norton led the team in goals this year with 41 followed by Owen Considine (36) and Kelan Cardinal (31).

Cardinal led the team in assists with 43 while Calichman had 31 despite missing several games as he led the team in assists per game at 5.2.

Defenseman Steve Dreher led the team in takeaways with 34 followed by A.J. Chiaradonna (30) and James Sharkey (26).

Face-off specialist, Bryce Kay, won 62 percent of his face-offs this spring.

Owen White led the team in ground balls with 64 followed by Dreher (58) and Sharkey (54).

Goalie Ben Pimentel went 10-8 in net with a goals-against average of 7.1 as he made 179 saves. The sophomore’s save percentage is .583.
