LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High field hockey team had to forfeit its final two games of the regular season due to the fact that they scheduled too many games. The MIAA allows teams to play up to 18 games but the Pioneers scheduled 20.
Because of this, the MIAA forced the Pioneers to forfeit their final two games.
The Pioneers overall record is at 11-6-1.
With 15 Cape Ann League games, including two with league newcomer Essex Tech, the Pioneers were able to officially play only thee non-league contest.
However, they scheduled five as they faced Marblehead twice, Sutton, North Andover, and Beverly going 4-1 in those games.
On Oct. 30, the Pioneers played a scrimmage at Chelmsford to prepare for the states.
The MIAA had the Pioneers seeded 12th heading into this week so that means the team will get to open the Division 4 state tournament at home (date, time and opponent unknown as of press time).
Last year, the Pioneers reached the third round of the Div. 4 state tournament before losing, 2-0, to Monomoy as they went 13-8 overall.
