DANVERS — On Monday afternoon, the North Reading High girls’ lacrosse team was doubled up by host Essex Tech, 8-4, up in Danvers. With that defeat, the Hornets record dipped to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the Cape Ann League.

“This was not one of our better games,” admitted Hornets head coach Matt Costello. “It was back-and-forth, but we were not able to cut into their lead in the second half,”

The Hawks are making their Cape Ann League debut this year after moving from the Commonwealth Athletic Conference back in September.

“They have some very good athletes,” said Costello.

Essex Tech led this game, 6-3, at the half. There were no goals scored in the third quarter and the Hawks outscored the Hornets, 2-1, in the final 12 minutes.

All four Hornet goals were scored by sophomore attacker Alaina Driscoll. Mikaela O’Driscoll and junior co-captain, Lindsay Rosenthal, had one assist each as the two other Driscoll goals were unassisted.

The Hawks dominated the territorial play as they had 21 shots on goal. Hornet goalie, Kaitlyn Supple, made 13 saves to fall to 2-2 in net.

This game was originally scheduled to be played on April 5 but was postponed due to the weather.

North Reading will have the April Vacation Week off next week as their next contest will be on April 23 when they host Pentucket at 4:15 p.m.
