GEORGETOWN — In their final game of the regular season last Friday afternoon, the North Reading High girls’ lacrosse team lost, 15-12, at Georgetown on a warm, sunny day.

With that defeat, the Hornets’ record fell to 6-13 overall and 3-10 in the Cape Ann League. They finished tied for third place with Essex Tech in the CAL Baker Division. The Royals, meanwhile, improved to 6-12 and 3-10 in the CAL.

The Hornets got off to a good start, scoring the game’s first four goals. However, Georgetown was able to even the game at eight at the half.

The Royals then took control outscoring the Hornets 7-4 in the second half.

“They went on a surge that second half,” said Hornets head coach Matt Costello.

Mak Murphy led the Hornet attack with a career-high four goals. Addie Hajj scored three times while Abby McInerney scored twice. Mikaela O’Driscoll, Alaina Driscoll and Eva Cannalonga all scored once.

Hornet goalie, Kaitlyn Supple, made four saves as her record dropped to 6-13.

North Reading finished ranked 19th in the MIAA Division 4 power rankings as the top 32 teams automatically qualify for the state tournament.

The seedings came out on May 29 as the Hornets will open the tournament on the road (date, location and opponent unknown as of press-time).

This is the fourth-straight year the Hornets have qualified for the states.

“I am really excited for how we can do,” said Costello.
