A master storyteller who loved to travel and enjoy blue water adventures

 

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida — Elmer Robert Jones, 92, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away at home on May 21, 2024. Husband of 70 years to his North Reading home town sweetheart, Virginia (Bigham) Jones, he was the son of the late Elmer R. Jones and the late Janet Jones. He leaves behind beloved sisters-in-law Helen (Bigham) Long Rohner and Janice (Kerr) Jones.

Elmer lived by the motto, “The greatest thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.” Together, Elmer and Ginny poured their love and devotion into their children, David and Susan Jones; the late Debra Jones; Donna and Sean Boisen; Doreen and Jim Archard; Denise Richardson; and Darryl and Laura Jones; and their 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

An expert in the field of thermodynamics engineering, Elmer advanced understanding in the realm of burn-in technology. An inventor, Elmer held numerous patents. He held dear his early endeavor, RoElCo, which he started with his best friend and brother-in-law, the late Roy Long. The companies he founded and championed included EJ Systems, D6 Industries and EJ Thermal Design. Leaving behind a legacy of hard work, determination and dedication, Elmer and Ginny traveled extensively for work and pleasure. They also found a home in the yachting community, enjoying many blue water adventures together.

Elmer was a master storyteller with a ready-smile and a funny tale for friend and stranger alike. His generosity was legendary. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. A private wake was held in Florida. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in North Reading.
