NORTH READING — Fireworks and the Fourth are ubiquitous, and with America’s 248th birthday celebration coming up next Thursday, who doesn’t like a great BBQ and reunions with family and friends topped off with a beautiful display of pyrotechnics?

While it’s been a few years since there was a fireworks display in town, there are numerous opportunities for townspeople to find safe, professionally run fireworks shows throughout the region, including the nearby towns of Wilmington, Wakefield, Andover, North Andover and Tewksbury.

So whether you travel to Boston’s iconic Esplanade to enjoy Pops Goes the Fourth with the Boston Pops, head to one of the state’s beaches in Salisbury, Marblehead, Nahant, Manchester or Salem, take a day trip to Six Flags in Agawam, or stay closer to home, there will be plenty of opportunities to celebrate America’s day of independence.

A partial list of fireworks displays taking place throughout Massachusetts over the next few weeks is listed below. Many of these shows are held prior to the 4th of July.
