Loved to crochet, bake, work in her garden and care for stray animals

MELROSE — Geraldine M (Ritchie) O’Donnell passed away on June 26 in Melrose at the age of 90. Geraldine was the loving wife of the late William J. O’Donnell with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. She was also a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

Gerry, as she was known by many, loved to crochet and always had winter hats and Afghan blankets to offer those whom she met or visited to keep them warm in the wintertime. She was also known to bake delicious apple pies and pizza that were so enjoyed by many. She was known to take care of many stray animals and work in her beloved back yard garden. She devoted her time to praying many Rosaries every day. Her faith and love made us all strong.

Gerry is survived by her eight children: William and his wife Carol of Melrose; Elizabeth Coughlin of Beverly; Joan Amaral and her husband William of Hanson; John of Melrose; Carol Casey and her husband Robert of Palm Coast, FL; Geraldine of Melrose; Mark of Palm Harbor, FL; and Eugene of Melrose. She is also survived by six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Michael Coughlin and her grandson Robert Casey.
