PEABODY — Although it was their third game in three days, on July 8, the busy schedule did not affect the Lynnfield 12-year-old Williamsport baseball team as they rolled over Winthrop 12-1 up in Peabody. With that win, Lynnfield improved to 4-1 in District 16 play.

“The offense was great throughout the lineup,” said Lynnfield head coach Mark Hudson.

Justin Migliero was the winning pitcher going 4.1 innings. He gave up one run, four hits, no walks and he struck out seven.

Rob Butler pitched the final 1.2 innings, fanning two as he did not allow a hit or a walk. 

At bat. Butler went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Colin Morrison was 2-for-4 with a team-high three RBI. Chase Paton walked three times and scored three times.

Leading 6-1, Lynnfield scored four times in the fifth inning and twice more in the top of the sixth. Lynnfield finished with 10 hits.

The day before, Lynnfield defeated Peabody 3-1. Luke McEwen was the winning pitcher going 4.2 innings. He gave up one run, eight hits, no walks and he fanned nine. Paton got the save going the final 1.1 innings. He did not give up any hits or walks and he struck out one.

“Luke mixed his pitches well,” said Hudson.

Morrison had a two-run single in the bottom of the first while Paton and Graham Hudson were both 2-for-2. Hudson had an RBI single in the third.

Lynnfield had seven hits in that game.

The only loss for the team came on July 6 as they were doubled up by Swampscott, 4-2, at Pine Hill in Lynn.

“We left too may men on base,” recalled Hudson as the team left 10 runners on base.

Morrison led the offense going 2-for-3 and knocked in both runs. Overall, Lynnfield had six hits.

In a four-inning mercy-rule game on June 28, Lynnfield rolled host East Lynn 15-2.

“We were locked in with our bats,” said Hudson.

Lynnfield broke the game open in the top of the fourth with 14 runs. McEwen was 2 –for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. On the mound, he pitched three innings. He gave up no runs, two hits, one walk and he struck out seven.

Migliero was the team’s other multiple hitter going 2-for-3 with a team-high three runs batted in.

In the opening game of the tournament, Lynnfield hammered host Wyoma, 18-1, in a three-inning mercy-rule game.

Lynnfield had 15 hits as Hudson was 2-for-2 with three RBI while Will Shields was – for-2 with two RBI.

Paton went 1-for-2 with a walk and three RBI.

Lynnfield scored twice in the first, six times in the second and 10 more in the top of the third. 

Morrison got the win on the hill going two innings. McEwen pitched the third to end the game.
