NORTH READING — It was a rough night for the North Reading A’s on July 10 as they were shut out by the Peabody Champions, 11-0, on a hot-steamy night at North Reading High School.

With the loss, the A’s fell to 6-14 as they dropped to 10th place in the North Shore Baseball League. The Champions, meanwhile, improved to 13-2 as they are in 1st place.

Peabody scored twice in the second and fourth innings. They then plated four runs in the third and three more in the top of the sixth.

The Champions pounded 13 hits off A’s pitching.

North Reading had just three hits and the defense struggled committing four errors.

Lucas Rincon went 2 for 2 while Charles Campbell had the other hit as he was 1 for 1.

Sam Kalvis pitched the first four innings. He gave up eight runs but only one was earned. He allowed nine hits, one walk and he struck out four as his record fell to 0-2.

The loss was the sixth-straight for the A’s as they are now in danger of missing the playoffs for the eighth-consecutive season.

Only the top eight teams qualify for the playoffs and the teams ahead of them in the playoff hunt have games in hand.

The A’s will have a 10-day gap in-between games as the next time they play will be on July 27.

That day, they will host a double-header against the North Shore Storm with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
