NORTH READING — The seventh-annual North Reading girls’ field hockey camp will take place at North Reading High School Aug. 5, 6 and 7 at Arthur J. Kenney Field. The camp runs from 9 to 11 a.m. each day.

This will be the second year it is run by North Reading High head coach Mikayla Allen, who will start her second season at the helm in September.

“Last year, we had it on the grass field because they were working on the turf field but we are back on the turf again this summer,” said Allen.

The camp is open to players who are entering 2nd through 8th grade this fall regardless of experience The camp will be broken into three age groups (2nd and 3rd, 4th and 5th and 6th through 8th).

“We will be working on skills like stick-work, ball-handling and also play some mini-games,” said Allen. “The camp will be run by the varsity team, along with me.”

Allen is trying to strengthen the bond between the high school program and the youth programs.

“This camp is a great way to merge the youth with the high school players,” she said. “The girls on the varsity team are good role models for the younger players.”

For the first time, the camp is also open for players who are not from town.

It is $80 for the three days and players are encouraged to bring water bottles and snacks. Players also should bring their own equipment.
