WEST NEWBURY — On Tuesday afternoon, the North Reading High boys’ soccer team won at Pentucket, 5-1, to go to 3-0 overall and in the Cape Ann League.

“That was the best game we have played so far,” said Hornets head coach Mark Bisognano. “We played solid all-around and we were very creative with our attack.”

The Hornets scored three times in the opening half. Seth Evans scored in the 19th minute assisted by Nicholas Lopes.

Evans then assisted on Matt Fleury’s goal in the 34th minute to make it 2-0.

Just two minutes later, Finn Rodger had the third goal with Fleury assisting.

Fleury then picked up his second assist in the 50th minute as Davi Leao scored.

“This was a breakout game for Matt,” said Bisognano, about the senior co-captain. “He has played well in all three games.”

Max Gulino made it 4-0 one minute later with Asher Schulz assisting,

The Panthers avoided the shutout scoring with a little over three minutes remaining in the game.

Goalkeeper, Cam Parrett, made three stops to go to 3-0.

On Sept. 5, the Hornets blanked guest Triton 6-0 as they scored all six goals in the first half.

“They have been struggling with their numbers for years,” said Bisognano. “They have a good coach but they have had trouble filling out their roster.”

Gulino led the attack with two goals and one assist. The other four scorers were Evans, Lopes, Schulz and senior co-captain, Kieran Miller.

Parrett made five saves against the Vikings.

All 27 players on the roster got in the game for the Hornets.

In the season opener on Sept. 3, the Hornets edged visiting Essex Tech 2-1.

The next game for the Hornets will be on Sept. 12 as they welcome Ipswich at 4:45 p.m.

North Reading then visits Manchester-Essex on Sept. 17 with that game starting at 4:30 p.m.
