Vietnam veteran who loved nature and long walks
WAKEFIELD — William L. Oxford, age 76 of Wakefield, died on Monday, September 30 at his home after a prolonged illness.
He was born in Lynn on December 10, 1947 and was the son of the late Cyril and Phyllis (Surrette) Oxford. Billy was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School where he was a star pitcher for the baseball team. He served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970. During that time, he serviced the planes that sprayed the Agent Orange. After Vietnam, he was sent to the Philippines. Billy was very active and he loved nature, canoeing and going on long walks with his wife Diane.
He was the beloved husband of Diane (Medige) Oxford. He was the beloved brother of Cyril “Skip” Oxford and his wife Kristine of Newburyport. He was the brother-in-law of Janice Seabury and her late husband Edward of Lynnfield and George Medige and his wife Ruthann of Wakefield. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
