NORTH READING – For a fourth year, the North Reading High School Marching Hornets, led by Director Ben Owens, is hosting a Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) Northeast District competition this Sunday, October 13 at 1 p.m.

All are invited to see six local high school marching bands, including the North Reading Hornets, and be thrilled by performances from the spectacular UMass Lowell and Boston University marching bands.

The NRHS set tells the story of the ancient Greek King Midas.  Featured music is “Danse Bacchanale” by Saint Saens, “Golden Slumbers” by the Beatles, “Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin and “Goldfinger” by Shirley Bassey.]

“We were thrilled to have this show win first in our division in competition last weekend,” said Owens.  “Come and see the great work the kids are doing. There is so much to be proud of, from musicianship, to visuals, to the growing size of our program.”

Owens is in his seventh year leading the NRHS Marching Band, which has grown from about two dozen members to a roster of 67 members under his direction.  He is joined by Dan Muse (assistant director), Tara Zerfas (color guard director), as well as Drum Majors Nathan Burt, Raffi Toby and Calvin Fisher.  Section leaders are Luke Berkley, Ethan Quan, Matt Capalbo, Joe Dhimitri, Ceci Thomson, Lilly Liberto, Nick Santiago and Sabrina Etringer Da Silva.

Tickets are available at the gate or online for $8 general admission. To purchase tickets online, go to https://nrmb.square.site/micca-2024-tickets.
