WRENTHAM — On Oct. 26, the Lynnfield High girls’ cross country team participated in the Cape Ann League Championship Meet at the Wrentham Developmental Center on a sunny, mild day.
The Pioneers came in 5th place out of nine teams with a total score of 144. Hamilton-Wenham won with 23.
“It was a beautiful fall day albeit windy, and the girls ran really aggressively,” said Pioneers head coach Liane Cook “Despite our top runner (Gabby Bottaro) needing to drop out due to an injury, the rest of the team worked hard to put us in fifth place and beat two teams that had beaten us in the regular season, Manchester-Essex and Amesbury.”
Abby Lopez was the first Pioneer to finish the 5,000-meter course with a time of 21:36 to place 17th overall.
Kaila George was 24th (22:15), while Caitlin Buoniconti placed 33rd (23:12).
Shea Moore captured 37th (23:45.85) while Maeve Wertz was right with her in 38th (23:45.87).
Lily White placed 63rd at 26:52.
The next event for the team will be on Nov. 9 back in Wrentham for the Division 3A State Championship.
In the regular season, the Pioneers went 2-3 as they finished in 4th place in the CAL Baker Division.
