WRENTHAM —  Last Saturday, the Lynnfield High girls’ cross country team participated in the MIAA Division 3A cross country championships at the Wrentham Developmental Center in the final meet of the year.

Of the 23 schools there, the Pioneers came in 15th place with a total score of 371. Norwell won the event with 78.

The race was 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) long.

Gabby Bottaro came in 1st for the Pioneers with a time of 21:59 to place 51st overall.

Kaila George ran 22:24 to capture 64th place.

Maeve Wertz came in 3rd for the team, which was her highest finish, as she ran a time of 23:29 to place 87th. It was her personal-best time by 16 seconds.

Shea Moore was the 4th Pioneer to cross the finish line with a time of 23:39. It was a personal-best time by six seconds as she placed 93rd overall.

Caitlin Buoniconti ran a 24:04 for 105th place while Lily White was 151st at 26:51.

Unfortunately, the Pioneers’ top runner from the Cape Ann League Meet two weeks ago, Abby Lopez, needed to drop out due to an injury.

“Overall the girls ran well,” said Pioneers first-year  head coach Liane Cook. “Maeve and Shea both achieved personal-best times which was good to see.”

In the regular season, the Pioneers went 2-3 as they finished in fourth place in the CAL Baker Division.

On Oct. 26, Lynnfield placed 5th out of nine schools in the CAL Meet, which also took place at the Wrentham Developmental Center.
