MELROSE — Lena M. (Limone) Fortunato passed away peacefully at home on November 12. She was 94 years of age. Lena was born in Boston on January 31, 1930 to the late Peter and Antonia (Lombardo) Limone.
Lena was raised in the West End of Boston, graduated from Girls High in Boston and has been a resident of Melrose for many years. Mrs. Fortunato started out working at Village Fruit in Brookline then at Classic Kids store in Melrose. Growing up Lena loved spending time at Long Beach with family and going on cruises. Lena enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and shopping. She was also a member of the Melrose Sons of Italy.
Recently she became a great grandmother and watching the kids play always put a smile on her face. She was the loving mother of Patricia Juliano and her husband Richard of Melrose; Philip Fortunato and his late wife Vicky of Georgia. Proud grandmother of Lisa Tracy and her husband Collin Tracy; Joseph Juliano and Philip Fortunato. Great-grandmother to Lena and Matthew Tracy. Caring sister of Connie Athanas; Rose Balesteri; the late Carmella Scott; the late Helen Palano and her late husband Charles; the late Peter Limone and his wife Olympia; the late Joseph Limone and his wife Laura; and the late Josephine Micale, Mary Bramante, Salvatore, James, Roy and Frank Limone. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
