NORTH READING — The Cape Ann League girls’ soccer coaches recently met to select their All-Star teams and five North Reading High players received post-season honors.
Four made the CAL All-League team while one made the All-Star team.
The four Hornets on the All-League team were Allie Lanciani, Kiersten Higgins, Reilly Tassinari and Marisa Montana.
Lanciani was also the CAL Kinney Division Player of the Year as the junior forward had 24 goals and 15 assists. She was a CAL All-Star last fall.
“Allie had a tremendous junior campaign showcasing her talent,” said Hornets head coach Sean Killeen, about the forward. “She is a target forward that plays exceptionally well on the ball and will find the open teammate. She is strong and physical and had a breakout year.”
Higgins, another junior forward, had 23 goals and six assists. She was an All-League member last year as well.
“An established goal scorer after scoring 18 times in her sophomore campaign she received a lot of attention from other team’s defenders often man-marking or providing deep support,” said Killen. “That attention made no difference this year with her numbers.”
Higgins also made the Eastern Mass. First-Team All-Stars.
Tassinari played center-mid this fall as the junior had 8 goals and 16 assists.
“She created opportunities with every touch and every pass,” said Killen. “She loves to take people on one-on-one and is pure danger. She plays much bigger than her size.”
Montana is a senior co-captain who played center back. With her on the field, the goal differential was a plus-58.
“She is a four year varsity player and the past two seasons has committed to center back in the best interest of the team,” said Killeen. “Her speed, strength and awareness are visible strengths. She also competes at the highest level.”
Julia Scammon made the CAL All-Star team. The center-midfielder had three goals and ten assists.
“Julia, a four- year varsity player, was the complete package: hustle, determination and the vision to create offense with every touch,” said Killen, about the senior co-captain. “She can break down a defense with a single pass, finishing the season with 13 points. She was an integral part of the offensive attack.”
The Hornets fell, 2-1, to guest North Middlesex in the MIAA Division 3 first round back on Nov. 5 as they finished at 15-2-2 overall.
In the CAL, North Reading went 13-1-2 as they captured the Kinney Division title.
