Owner of Reading Lumber; he loved helping generations of customers

READING — Charles H. “Charlie” Strout Jr., of Reading and Martha’s Vineyard, passed away on December 12, 2024 at the age of 82. He was the beloved husband of Judy Strout and the father of Chuck Strout and his wife Molly of Reading and Jamie Strout and his wife Dora of Lynnfield.

Born on June 8, 1942, he was the son of the late Charles Sr. and Alice (Goodwin) Strout, and the brother of Jane Willson of Michigan and the late Ann Strout and William Strout. He was the beloved grandfather of Rachel, Emily, Caitlin and Ryan.

Charlie deeply loved his family and cherished every moment he got to spend with them. He especially took great pride in his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Charlie, owner of Reading Lumber on Main Street in North Reading, began working at the store in the early 1960s. He loved the business and helping generations of customers. Charlie had a passion for making furniture, and many of his beautiful creations can be found in the homes of his family.

He and Judy shared a love for Martha’s Vineyard where they spent their summers in Katama, visiting the beaches and enjoying all the island has to offer.
