LYNNFIELD — The following is a round up for Lynnfield-Saugus Youth Hockey.
Bantams
The Bantam A team had two games over the weekend. They played the number one seeded and undefeated New Hampshire East Bantam A team on Friday, Nov. 20 at Kasabuski Arena with a strong fan base for both teams on hand.
Lynnfield-Saugus got on the board first with a nice goal by Richie Mauro in the slot, assisted by Louis Pilotte. The game remained 1-0 late into the second period with both teams had chances, until Alex Salvo caught a pass from Jack Callahan and broke by the defense and was in alone and slid the puck between the goalies pads to give Lynnfield-Saugus 2-0 lead. N.H. East turned up the pressure in the third period, but Vinny Scaduto was up to the test. Scaduto made several spectacular saves to preserve the two goal lead. N.H. East pulled their goalie with just under three minutes left in the game and it paid off, scoring with 1:45 left in the game. N.H. East were unable to tie the game and Lynnfield- Saugus skated off handing N.H. East their first loss of the season.
The second game of the weekend was on Saturday, Nov. 21 versus Melrose Bantam A team at Endicott College. Melrose struck first and took a quick 1-0 lead but that’s all the celebrating Melrose would do. Both Scaduto and Anthony Magwood kept all remaining shots out of the net and the team played very well in front of both of them. Lynnfield-Saugus first goal came from a nice shot from the point by Jack Lacoste who started the onslaught of scoring. They would score five more goals; one goal by Nick Kosmas, one goal by Pilotte and two goals from Jack Callahan. The final score was 6-1 and capped of a strong weekend for the Lynnfield Saugus-Bantam A team.
Pee Wees
PeeWee AA battled a tough Masco team to a 1-1 tie in Malden. Saugus-Lynnfield carried the territorial advantage, but ran into a hot Masco goalie. Andrew Cipriano potted the only goal for the Stars after cleaning up a rebound on an Albert Berquist shot. Evan Fitzemeyer was solid again in net turning back several good scoring opportunities. Nolan Drislane had a couple of big rushes from the defensive end setting up scoring chances for the home team. Danny Majeski had a very nice game at the point coming back from an injury.
Squirts
The Squirt AAA team got a nice 6-1 victory over Methuen on Sunday, Nov. 22. It was a great team effort as the Stars had six different goal scorers and displayed great team defense. Cam Marengi, Jack Carpenter and Vincent Benvenuto played great two way hockey with some great moves and plays in the offensive zone and all three backchecked extremely well.
It was a team effort for the Squirts AA team in a nice 3-2 win over Winthrop. Strong defense from Reagan Little and Cameron Busa. James Sharkey attacked first with an unassisted goal in the first period. Jack Glowacz and Joseph Soares both scoring for the win.
Mites
Mite 3s fast paced game against Masco featured strong defense, exciting offense and solid goaltending. Chloe Crabtree and Brayden Verone helped the Stars secure a 13-11 win. Their tenacity around the net and defensive plays held off Masco. Chloe and Braydon had multiple shots on net shaking the Masco goaltending. This allowed Evan Toto and Matthew Morelli to lead the offense with each scoring a hat-trick.
The Mite 4 team lost a close game to the Cape Ann 3 team by the score of 9-7 on Saturday. Hunter Arsenault had a great game in net, stopping several breakaways in their tracks. Sam Culey had a standout offensive game, with four goals and outstanding hustle. Cal Brennan also had a great game and added a goal of his own. The entire team competed hard for a full 60 minutes and gave Cape Ann a run for their money.
U6
This week’s Mite U6 game against Wakefield was highlighted by Estelle McClory’s first goal of the season and included a great effort in goal by Jaedyn Encarnacao. McClory and Encarnacao are improving each week, along with their teammates.
Two players are in the spotlight for the Stars this week. McClory netted her first goal of the season for the U6 Stars and Ben Mullin survived a bone crushing hit to score both goals for the Pee Wee AA team to preserve a tie for the Stars against Melrose. Congrats Ben and Estelle!
