MELROSE — Virginia M. (McShane) Bowes passed away at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on March 14, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband Walter P. Bowes by six days.
Virginia was born in Boston on Dec. 22, 1925 to the late Michael and Anna (Carroll) McShane. She was raised in Mission Hill and graduated from Mission Hill High. Mrs. Bowes has been a resident of Saugus for the past 50 years and was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Saugus. She was a homemaker and had also worked as a bookkeeper at T.W. Rogers Department Store and at Hinkle Oil Company in Saugus for several years.
Virginia loved going to Bingo, was an avid reader and enjoyed taking trips to Cape Cod and Maryland. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who cherished her family and her eight grandchildren.
Mrs. Bowes is now reunited with her husband of 55 years, Walter P. Bowes, who passed away on March 8. She was the loving mother of Janice Colpitts and her husband Tom of Rowley, Carolyn MacLean and her husband Scott of Tewksbury and Dianne Bowes-Hudson and her husband Jim of Northborough. She was the devoted grandmother of Thomas Jr.; Daniel and Amanda Colpitts; Connor, Haley and Andrew MacLean and Shane and Jake Hudson. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends may gather at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St. Melrose on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 9-9:30 a.m., before leaving in procession for a Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Summer St., Saugus, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Memorial contributions may be made in Virginia’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
