EDISON, N.J. — Manhattan College freshman Brandon Grinnell, a former Warrior lacrosse star, was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week for the period of March 6-12.
Grinnell scored three goals with an assist and three ground balls over two games that week.
The Massachusetts native found the back of the net twice at CAA stalwart Delaware before adding a goal, an assist and two ground balls against UMass Lowell.
The Jaspers lost both games, however, by scores of 12-9 and 13-6. The Delaware game was March 7 in Newark, Delware and the UMass Lowell game was at home in Riverdale, N.Y.
Manhattan College is 2-6 on the season with both victories being by 14-13 scores, one in triple overtime and the other in two overtimes. The Jaspers beat Wagner and Hartford.
On the year, Grinnell has nine goals and six assists for 15 points in eight games played and started. The freshman has taken 31 shots, 18 of which were on goal. Grinnell has 14 ground balls and was the second Jasper to take home Rookie of the Week honors after freshman Trevor Pelletier (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) did so earlier in the year.
Grinnell played lacrosse at Wakefield Memorial High School under the direction of head coach Andrew Lavalle. He earned four letters for the Warriors.
Grinnell was a Boston Globe All-Scholastic selection and holds the single-season and career records for points, goals, and assists at Wakefield Memorial. He also helped the Warriors to a pair of Middlesex League Freedom division championships.
Grinnell also played club lacrosse for the Top Gun Fighting Clams under Justin Walker.
Grinnell is majoring in mechanical engineering at Manhattan.
