WAKEFIELD — Kathleen M. Ickes, 71, of Wakefield died Tuesday, July 4, at Curahealth of Peabody.
Born in Quincy on March 12, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Anthony Patrick and Mary (Simpson) Burke.
Kathy was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1964. Before retiring she worked in town as an administrative assistant.
Kathy was an avid Boston sports fan and would not miss watching the Patriots and Red Sox. Even though she had much to celebrate with her teams, her greatest joys, pride and laughter came from her six grandchildren. Kathy loved their visits and hearing about their own sports teams, enjoying their artwork they loved to share with her, hearing about their own interests, and what was happening with them at their schools.
She is survived by her caretaker James Ickes of Wakefield. Kathy was the loving mother of Ross P. Ickes and his wife Andrea of Wakefield, and her daughter Kerry C. Liard and her husband Roy of Millville. She was the sister of Mary Simpson of Wakefield. Kathy was also the beloved grandmother of her six grandchildren; Anna Cuevas, Luke, Nathan, and Emma Ickes, Addyson and Jameson Liard.
A funeral service for Kathy will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment, St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham.
