CAMBRIDGE — Sarah Mezini, a 2017 graduate of Lynnfield High School, helped the North Shore Legends win the 18U Advanced title at the 2017 United States Tennis Association New England Junior Team Tennis Section Championships held in Cambridge. Mezini will play tennis at UMass Amherst.
The 2017 USTA New England Junior Team Tennis Section Championships brought together the top 17 teams from throughout New England at intermediate and advanced levels.
Team members include: Alexander Fizz (Marblehead), Connor Aulson (Middleton), Allison Falvey (Wakefield), Sarah Mezini (Lynnfield), Nilos Makino (Winchester), Nicholas Silacci (Marblehead), Grant Pertile (Edgartown), Andrew Imrie (Andover), and Sonya Khudyakov (Brookline).
“The Section Championships mark the end of the local Junior Team Tennis season and give the players an opportunity to compete for a title while bonding with other players on and off the court,” said Jon Kostek, Youth Play Manager, USTA New England. “We wish to celebrate all of the teams who participated and wish our champions the best of luck at the National Championship.”
The Section Championships serve as a springboard to the USTA Junior Team Tennis National Championships as the winners qualify for the national tournament held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. in September. Each year the nation’s top teams compete for a national champion in two age divisions (14U and 18U) in both the Intermediate and Advanced play divisions.
Established in 1991, USTA Junior Team Tennis provides youth with all of the health and social benefits of tennis in a coed, fun and competitive team environment – all while allowing participants to compete with and against individuals of similar ages and skill levels.
With more than 85,000 players competing nationwide, USTA Junior Team Tennis brings players together to enjoy camaraderie and teamwork, providing a fun environment for kids to learn that succeeding is really more about how they play the game – win or lose.
