LYNNFIELD — Superintendent Jane Tremblay will be staying put for the next three years.
The School Committee voted unanimously to extend Tremblay’s contract last week. School Committee Chairman Tim Doyle said the committee recently met in executive session, and agreed to extend Tremblay’s contract for two years.
“June 30, 2019 is the current expiration date, and that will be extended out through June 30, 2021,” said Doyle.
Doyle also read a statement on the decision to extend Tremblay’s contract.
“Last spring when we considered Superintendent Tremblay’s compensation for the fiscal year 2018 school year, we agreed to revisit the length of the contract around the end of the calendar year,” said Doyle. “At an executive session (Dec. 8), we discussed and agreed to extend Superintendent Tremblay’s contract.”
Doyle noted Tremblay received a “proficient” or “exemplary” rating on each standard included on the superintendent’s evaluation last June. He also said Tremblay “had met or made significant progress on all of her goals” included in the evaluation.
“(Tremblay) has articulated a vision for the district and the district strategy that is reaping benefits for our students,” said Doyle. “This is clearly evident in the results of the Next-Generation MCAS. Superintendent Tremblay is committed to our district, our students, our staff, and to continuous improvement. We can’t think of anyone better to lead the district and to implement the district strategy than it’s author.”
Doyle said the school board “has also observed Superintendent Tremblay continues to seek ways to improve her own practice.”
“(Tremblay) is always open to hearing ideas for improvement, and considering how to incorporate them into her practice,” said Doyle. “We believe she will continue to grow in her role to the benefit of the Lynnfield Public Schools. In short, the committee is confident in Superintendent Tremblay’s leadership and we would like her to continue for the foreseeable future.”
Doyle noted the town will be experiencing a transition with a new town administrator coming on board.
“It’s a great opportunity to have stability in the School Department,” said Doyle. “Superintendent Tremblay has offered that stability since she has come on board, and hopefully she will continue to offer that stability for the foreseeable future.”
Tremblay thanked the School Committee for their support.
“I just want to say in order for me to be successful and to do the work, there has to be so many different things that come into play,” said Tremblay. “The support of this board is absolutely positively number one. And then next is having extraordinary people to work with. The administrators in this district are incredibly dedicated to this work as well as the teachers.
“I think one of the things that makes this town so successful in education is the support that we also get from our parents and the community at large, the Board of Selectmen as well as the Finance Committee,” Tremblay continued. “I appreciate and thank you for the kind words, but nobody gets to do all of this in isolation. It really is a concerted effort of everybody in this town to make the schools what they are today.”
