LYNNFIELD — Lynnfield High School volleyball head coach Michelle Perrone has announced she will step down as head coach for the Pioneers.
Sure the wins will be difficult to replace, (175 of them in 10 years), but the leadership and guidance of Perrone to a decade’s worth of Pioneers is what will truly be missing next volleyball season.
“She obviously did very well as far as wins, but it was how she taught the kids and the life lessons she gave them on and off the court that was really important,” said LHS athletic director Michael Bierwirth.
Perrone has the type of coaching resume at LHS that’s quite frankly hard to translate. There’s so many Div. 3 North championships (seven straight from 2011-2017) that it’s impossible to guess which team was her best. Throw in a MIAA Volleyball Coach of the Year in 2016 and you get a good understanding of how respected she was amongst a wide circle of coaches in Massachusetts.
Perrone will continue to teach physical education at LHS, which is certainly good news for any future Pioneers who might have missed out on her coaching council. Hopefully they pay attention in class, not only to the volleyball seminars, but to advice Perrone will have about success both in and out of athletics.
“She’s one of the best coaches I’ve worked with during my four years here,” said Bierwirth. “She is going to be very hard to replace.”
