Leary-obit-webMELROSE — Jewell F. (Booth) Leary, a 66-year resident of Melrose, entered into eternal life on Saturday, Dec. 6, at her home in Melrose following an extended illness.

Jewell was born in Malden on June 27, 1920, a daughter of the late Frances (Luprell) Booth. She grew up in Everett where she was educated and graduated from Everett High School in 1939. Jewell has been a homemaker most of her adult life where she dedicated herself to her husband and three children.

She enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader but her most enjoyment in life was her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

Jewell was the beloved wife of 69 years to retired Melrose Police Officer Joseph A. Leary. She was the devoted mother of Janis Mastrorillo and her husband Roger of Melrose, Stephen Leary of Wakefield and the late Michael Leary. She as the loving Nana to nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Betty Vereb.

Relatives and friends attended Jewell’s funeral on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 8 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Melrose. A funeral Mass followed in St. Mary Church (corner of Myrtle and Herbert streets), Melrose, at 9 a.m. Burial at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
