WAKEFIELD — Donald W. LeSaffre, 82, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully at Bear Hill Nursing Center in Stoneham on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.

Don was born in Saugus on March 20, 1936, one of six children of the late Robert C. LeSaffre and Anna M. (Carothers) LeSaffre. Don was raised in Melrose where he graduated from Melrose High School in 1954. Raised in a car family, Don’s father founded the automobile dealership, Daniels LeSaffre Motors, Inc. on Main Street in Melrose in 1939. With an appreciation for automobiles, Don worked in sales before moving to service manager.

Don loved both playing and watching sports. As an adult, he played softball, and served as “setter” for his volleyball team. He enjoyed watching the Patriots and Red Sox and was a particular fan of NASCAR, which combined his love of cars and the competitive thrill of sports.

Growing up, Don enjoyed summers spent with family at Rye Beach, and looked forward to returning as an adult to see family. He also enjoyed relaxing by Lake Quannapowitt.

True to himself and always genuine at heart, Don was gentle and quiet who put others first. Don dedicated himself to caring for his two children, and provided steadfast support. With his selfless nature, Don never hesitated to give someone a ride, or offer his help. Don will be greatly missed, but always lovingly remembered for his selfless nature and authentic presence.

Don was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn R. (Mokler) LeSaffre. Devoted father of Karen C. LeSaffre and her husband Andy Kilgore of Somerville, and John P. LeSaffre of Wakefield. Loving brother of Anne Bruhmuller and her husband Jim of Center Barnstead, N.H., Daniels G. LeSaffre and his wife Ruth of Stoneham, John D. LeSaffre and his wife Nancy of Melrose, the late Robert D. LeSaffre and his surviving wife Patricia of Wakefield, and the late Dolores Driscoll and her surviving husband John S. “Jack” of Rye, N.H. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Don’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, April 2 from 4-8 p.m., and again on Tuesday at 9 a.m. before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield for his funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
