Pioneers improve to 4-0 after topping Ipswich

LYNNFIELD — On Monday afternoon, the Lynnfield High boys’ tennis team improved to 4-0 overall as they beat guest Ipswich, 4-1, at Lynnfield Middle School.
At first singles, Max Rothermund, lost, 6-0, 6-0, for the team’s lone defeat.
“His opponent is outstanding,” stated Pioneers head coach Joe Dunn. “He is one of the top players in the league.”
Second singles player, Arlex Correa-Ramirez, won in three sets. He won the first one, 6-1, and lost set two, 6-3. He then won the final set, 6-2.
Colin Lamusta won at third singles in shutout fashion, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action, the first team of Mike Gentile and Lorenzo Russo won, 6-1, 6-0, while the second duo of David Gentile and Jamil Khodr won, 6-0, 6-3.
“The two doubles team really stood out in this match,” said Dunn.
Sweep Vikings
On Wednesday, April 18, the Pioneers swept host Triton, 5-0, to go to 2-0 in the Cape Ann League.
“They are a young, inexperienced team so that allowed me to shuffle the lineup in that match,” said Dunn, who was missing Rothermund.
Lamusta won at first singles while Mike Gentile won at second singles as both players posted, 6-0, 6-0, wins.
Khodr won, 6-1, 6-0, at third singles.
Russo and Dave Gentile played first doubles and they also had a, 6-0, 6-0, shutout win. Sean Murray and Mike Maffeo also won, 6-0, 6-0, at second doubles.
On Wednesday, they Pioneers host Rockport. They then visit North Reading on Thursday.
On April 30, Lynnfield welcomes Pentucket. All three of those matches will start at 3:30 p.m.
