MELROSE — Eleanor M. (Kiley) O’Brien, 85, a lifelong resident of Melrose passed away suddenly at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on June 12, 2018.
Eleanor was a graduate of St. Mary’s Elementary School and St. Mary’s High School. She enjoyed being a devoted wife and home maker and raising her children. In later years she was employed by Metropolitan Credit Union until her retirement. Eleanor’s childhood was spent on the Kiley Farm which later became the location of the Parish of the Incarnation Church. She was a founding member of the church and continued to be an active member to this day.
She loved talking about her family history both in Ireland and of those who came to the US. Any holiday or major event was a special time for Eleanor. She would always have a large crowd of her extended family and friends filling her home. She is already greatly missed.
Eleanor was the beloved wife of the late John E. O’Brien. Loving mother of John O’Brien and his wife Suzann of Lynn, Karen Ciaramitaro of Melrose and her loving companion Edward Kane, Susan Kilday of Dover, N.H. and her husband Michael Kilday and Paula Cargill of N. Andover. Cherished grandmother of Katie Kilday Zobniw, Melissa Kilday, Michael Kilday, Amy Ciaramitaro Thomas and Alison Ciaramitaro, Kiley Cargill and Colin Cargill, Brett O’Brien and Sophia O’Brien. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren that brought her great joy. Caring sister of the late Kathleen (Kiley) McGrath and her late husband Paul McGrath. Devoted sister-in-law of Alan O’Brien and his wife Ann of Marshfield and the late Carol O’Brien Wilcox and the late Edward O’Brien. Also survived by many cherished and loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday, June 18. Procession was from the Gately Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 19, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St. Melrose. Relatives and friends were invited.
