ELIOT, MAINE — Arthur F. Mahoney, 81, of Eliot, Maine and formerly of Malden, died on August 30, 2018 at his home.
Arthur was born on October 9, 1936 in Malden, to Irish immigrants, the late John and Mary Mahoney. He grew up in Malden, and graduated from Malden Vocational School in 1954. He met his future wife Joan L. Selig, and was married on January 10, 1954. They went on to share 63 wonderful years together. Arthur and Joan raised their family in Malden, and lived in the same house for 50 years until retiring to Eliot.
Arthur had a passion for truck driving, and drove everything from local routes to long distance trips all of his life. He dearly missed the open road after he retired, and could often be found reminiscing about it.
Arthur loved his family, and was very active in their lives. He instilled in them good old fashioned values, that his boys carry with them to this day.
Besides family and driving, Arthur enjoyed wood working, was very handy and could be found fixing anything around the house that needed attention. Arthur was a member of the East Side AA in Malden, and a proud Teamsters member.
Arthur will be remembered fondly by his family as a strong, humble, and loving father. He will be deeply missed.
Arthur is the beloved husband of Joan L. (Selig) Mahoney. Devoted father of John E. Mahoney and his wife Marie of Eliot, Maine, Ronald D. Mahoney and his wife Karen of Eliot, Maine, and Robert W. Mahoney and his wife Janine of Eliot, Maine. Dear brother of Joe Mahoney of Taunton, and Ronald and his wife Carol Mahoney of Tewksbury. Cherished grandfather of John, Michael, Michelle, Amanda, Austin, Robert, Kevin, Ryan, Jake, Devin, Madison, and Alyssa. Treasured great-grandfather of Finn, Mason, Addie, Scarlet, Chase, and Luccianna. Caring former father-in-law of Susan Costa of Seabrook, N.H.
Relatives and friends gathered in honor and remembrance of Arthur’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday and for his funeral service on Wednesday. Interment at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
