WAKEFIELD — Edward Gynan Dow, born January 25,1929 passed away peacefully with family at his bedside on March 5, 2019, he was 90 years old and clear to the end.
Ed was born and raised in Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield Memorial High School, class of 1947, where he excelled as an athlete, playing both football and ice hockey. Upon graduation, Ed served in the United States Armed Forces.
Ed was employed by General Electric for 38 years and enjoyed his work as a Union Representative/Negotiator. He continued his interest in sports, playing golf, skiing and bowling league with his many wonderful friends from work.
Edward married Alice Moore (1949-1990, div.) and the two raised their family of seven children in Wakefield. Edward was the beloved father of Bonnie Dow Spell (Roland) of St. Thomas, USVI; Karen Dow Biagi (John dec.)of Boca Raton, Fla.;. Nancy Dow Moody (Sam Kornhauser) of Tiburon, Calif.; Marlene A. Dow of Derry, N.H.; Edward G. Dow (Anne) of Georgetown; Alison M. Dow of Salem, N.H. and Alden (Jack) J. Dow of Salem, N.H.
Ed was a grandfather and especially proud of his 10 grandchildren who lovingly called him Bumpa. Adam Spell (Jill) of Burlington Vt.; Jacob Spell of Washington, D.C.; and Emily Spell of Marblehead; Alexandra Dow Biagi of Atlanta, Ga.; Austin Dow Moody (Nicole) of New Haven, Conn.; Christopher Dow, Jennifer Dow and William Dow of Salem; Samantha White and Shannon White of Salem N.H. He was the great-grandfather of seven, Alden and Muriel Spell, Olivia and Judah Spell, Gianna White, Acen Torrens White and Noah White.
Ed was married to Carol (Melanson) Dow from 1998 to present. They resided in Winter Haven, Fla. with their beloved Dachshund, Tucker.
Edward is survived by his brother Donald G. Farnum of Lansing, Mich. and sister Kathy L. Crocker of East Dennis, Mass.
Ed always had a beautiful smile and an interesting story to tell. He shared his tales lovingly with his children and grandchildren. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by all.
