PEABODY — Lawrence J. “Larry” Romano, 94, of Peabody, passed away early Sunday morning at Brooksby Village in Peabody, following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Marie E. (Sherry) Romano.
Larry was born on May 30, 1924, in Boston, son of the late John and Margaret (Simone) Romano. He was a graduate of Boston Technical High School, and went on to attend Boston University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Education and master’s degree in Romance Languages.
Once out of college, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, during WWII, served in the European Theatre in the 40th Mobile Communications Squadron with the 8th and 9th Air Force. After return from active duty, he went on to work at MIT Instrumentation Laboratory, MITRE Corporation, and CS Draper Laboratory, spanning between the years of 1951- 1988. He was also a Senior Lecturer at Northeastern University teaching French, Spanish and Industrial Security from 1964 until 1988.
Larry was a very faithfully devoted man, serving as lector for over 40 years at St. Patrick’s Church in Stoneham, St. Joseph’s Church in Laconia, N.H., the Church of the Resurrection in Ft. Myers, Florida and Brooksby Village Chapel in Peabody.
Since moving to Brooksby Village in 2001, he became very active there, even creating a billiards group called, “The Ball Breakers,” and joining in other various activities around Brooksby. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Anne P. Glavin of North Sandwich, N.H., Jane G. and her husband Douglass G. Thayer of Wakefield, and Kathleen E. and Gary M. Pfeil of Laconia, N.H.; his grandchildren; Candice M. Morse, Mark D. Thayer, Karlene M. Walker, and Emily Pfeil; his great-grandchildren, Eden J. and Evan R. Morse, Leah and Cameron Auld, and Jack Walker, and many friends in the Brooksby Village Community,
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, from 3 – 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Saturday, May 4, at 11:30 a.m. at the Brooksby Village Chapel, 100 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
