Today is day two of the 2019 fall sports season.

The Wakefield High field hockey team was the first varsity squad to kick off 2019. The Warriors traveled to Reading yesterday and fell 3-1 in a hard-fought contest. Wakefield has a challenging start to their schedule. Their next game is Friday at home against Lexington before traveling to face Middlesex powerhouses Arlington and Watertown next week.

There is a full slate of Warrior varsity action today.

First up, the golf team hosts Lexington, 3:30 p.m. at Thomson Country Club. Head coach Chris Keane’s Warriors are coming off an exciting season in which they qualified for the tournament with a 6-6-1 record. Wakefield started the season at 1-6 and ran the table the rest of the way, going undefeated in their final six matches culminating in a clutch tie against Arlington.

Both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams start their campaigns today at 4 p.m. Ilir Ujkaj’s boys will travel to Reading while Steph Martin’s girls will host the Rockets at the Galvin Middle School.

Both teams missed out on the tourney last year and will look to start their quest off right today.

The Wakefield volleyball team is the last to play today with a 5:15 p.m. match in Reading. The Warriors won a program record seven wins last year and will continue to try and grow the program during head coach Sasha Duprey’s third season.
