LYNNFIELD — Lois Arlene Christopher, 92, passed away peacefully joining her beloved husband, Earl, in eternal life on December 8, 2019. She was born on May 3, 1927 in Tisbury to the late Laura (Hinckley) and Howard Powell, and was the granddaughter of Hebert N. and May Hinckley of Vineyard Haven.
Lois worked for John Hancock Insurance Agency when she met Earl. They enjoyed a remarkable and loving life together. After they married, she selflessly devoted her life to creating a caring home and raising her children. They lived in Reading for five years then moved to Lynnfield in 1965, where they lived until 1992 before retiring to Nokomis, Fla. to build a house in which they lived until 2015.
Vacations were special from Cape Cod to North Conway, N.H., and numerous other attractions throughout the country. Although she moved to Florida, in her heart she was a Massachusetts girl who loved lobster rolls, Light Houses and New England. She was a dedicated worshiper in the St. Maria Goretti and Our Lady of Assumption parishes.
Lois enthusiastically raised her family with a single-minded loving commitment from which everyone can learn. Lois filled the holidays with joy for her family; every morsel of her delicious and popular Christmas cookies and fruit cakes were baked with a mother’s love. Sumptuous Sunday afternoon dinners warmed many a winter’s day. As her sons moved away, packages loaded with baked goodies (all labeled), were eagerly awaited at Christmas.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Earl, and three brothers, Herbert, Ray and Howard. She is survived by three sons, David and wife Malka of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mark and wife Victoria of Winthrop, Maine, and Joseph and wife Allyson of Ipswich and three cherished grandchildren, Luke, Austin and Laurel Christopher.
Her funeral will be held from McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday, December 14 at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday, December 13 from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield.
