MELROSE — After a courageous battle with cancer, Martha J. McLaughlin, 88, passed away peacefully at home on March 30 surrounded by her loving children.

Martha was born in Boston on February 22, 1932 and went on to marry the late John McLaughlin and they had four children; the late John Jr. “Jack”, son Timothy and two daughters, Dee and Val. She loved her family; her two sisters, the late Louise and Doris; sister-in-law, the late Ellie; as well as her brother Sonny and her sister-in-law Renie.

Her grandchildren as well as her great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart as did her many nieces and nephews. She loved her friends dearly and they knew it.

She loved shopping a good bargain, playing cards, drinking Diet Pepsi and a good Chuck Norris movie. She loved people and so her career at Melrose Wakefield Hospital was never a job. It was never work, but a good place to share kindness and compassion that came so easily from her. She shared a great love for God and of walking with her faithful dog Bunny.

A celebration of Martha’s life will be hosted by family and friends when we can meet together again due to these unprecedented times we live in. Until then please send your condolences and share memories to the Boston Cremation on-line guest book.

In lieu of donations, Martha has asked that you give a smile to someone you see.
